TES Maths Resource of the Week 51 – Online Equations Test

October 5, 2014 - TES, TES Resource of the Week (ROTW)

The following resource has been kindly shared on the TES Maths website. It is available to download for free by registering. And to access all the lovely Resource of the Week (ROTW) resources, just click here

What is it?

The creator of this resource gave us the wonderful The Maths Teacher website, which is great for independent GCSE and A Level revision for students. Well, now he is back with a host of free interactive exercises on a whole host of maths topics. This particularly one is on solving Linear Equations. Students race against the clock to answer as many linear equations questions as they can, with several varieties available. Their answers are then marked, and there is the opportunity for them to print out their results to hand to their teacher.

How can it be used?

Now I know there are plenty of paid-for alternatives to this resource, but both my students and I really enjoyed the simplicity of the activity. There is no need to register, or anything like that, just get cracking answering some questions. I have used the resource a couple of ways. Firstly, as a homework for my students, where they had to print out their best score and time (nothing like a bit of competition to incentivise them). More recently, I have used it as a question generator in class, and then I go around the room asking for answers off students, giving the class three lives to get through as many questions as possible. For the repeated practise that is necessary to get students fluent in topics, this lovely resource certainly does a good job.

Thank you for sharing!
