Mr
Barton is an Advanced Skills Maths teacher in Formby (near Liverpool).
In 2007 Mr Barton was fortunate enough to be granted a one year
secondment to visit sunny Australia.
He had three aims for his trip:
1. To build this website
2. To experience what it is like
to teach in the land Down Under
3. To get a sun tan for the first
time in his life
Mr Barton achieved two of these aims.
Mr Barton is a firm believer in the effective
use of ICT to enhance both the teaching and learning
of maths, and that there's no better resource than a free one,
and these beliefs very much form the ethos of the site.
Mr
Barton has written two textbooks with accompanying CDs, which
aim to help A Level students and teachers make the most out
of Autograph.
The Teacher
Demonstrations book provides teachers with step by step
guides how to introduce 15 topics in an interactive and dynamic
way.
The Student
Investigations book provides students with 10 interactive,
challenging investigations to push them to their mathematical
limits.
Your granny may also enjoy these books.
Below
are a couple of videos of Mr Barton talking about his Autograph
Activities textbooks. He has since purchased new shirts, ties
and glasses.
Contrary to popular belief, Mr Barton's life doesn't totally
revolve around numbers (only 99.36% of it). As well as teaching
and writing about maths, Mr Barton also likes to do a bit of
other writing, and his first novel The
Cambridge Diaries: A Tale of Friendship, Love and Economics
was released in 2006. It is a story of a young northern lad's
first year at Cambridge University and is very much based on
Mr Barton's own experiences (although Mr Barton's character
in the book is slightly funnier and has slightly more success
with ladies than the real-life version). Some might say that
it is the perfect read for anyone who
is off to university, or who wants to know what really
goes on at university these days, but I couldn't possibly comment
on that. Reviews and more information can be found by clicking
on the picture on the left.
Whilst in Australia, Mr Barton has completed his next two
novels, and is currently waiting for a million pound offer
to publish them so that he can finally afford to upgrade his
Nissan Micra. The frist is the tale of a family
at Chrsitmas, the members of whom all have something
to hide, and the second is a crime drama
(with a twist) set in a supermarket in Preston...

Over the past few years Mr Barton has written a maths inspired
soft rock anthem entitled "There's
More to Maths Than One Add One", appeared dressed
as Pythagoras in a respectable
Southport hotel, won the princely sum of £15 on the
BBC1 TV show Bargain Hunt whilst
dressed in a bow tie and sporting an awful haircut, and reached
the regional finals of the BT Phone
Kiosk Karaoke competition where he was unfortunately
knocked out by an 11 year old Celine Dion. These are just
some of the reasons he had to flee these shores for Australia.
Mr Barton really hopes you enjoy looking around the site and
using the help and resources on offer. Any feedback, questions,
suggestions or multi-million pound donations via the contact
section would be welcomed with open arms.
